On my trip to Philadelphia today the conflict was invisible. I wasn't on a campus. Then on the train home, I saw an illuminated Bring Them Home billboard next to a New Jersey freeway.
From Penn Station my hotel is three subway stops away. As stop number three approaches, the train comes to a sudden halt. An announcement:
There is a customer injury. A customer made contact with the front of the train.
Some minutes later, we are escorted to the front of the train, and can exit into the station. Emergency crews are talking to someone under the train. "Move Along Folks," is the word.
The Grand Street NYC Metro station is closed right now. Yellow-emergency-tape-closed.
Seen: The “Other” Metro
The 200+ miles of tunnels under Gaza are called the Gaza Metro.
The IDF released videos: Extensive tunnels under the Al Shifa hospital. With rooms, toilets, air conditioning and more. Electricity and water provided by... the Al Shifa hospital! (They so want to help.)
IDF Spokesperson: IDF soldiers inside the terror tunnel complex at the Shifa Hospital: the IDF exposes the terror tunnel routes, dozens of meters of a tunnel system which also passes under the Qatari Building in the hospital complex, as well as rooms where Hamas terrorists can operate and stay for extended periods
IDF and ISA special forces, including the Shaldag, Oketz and Yahalom Units, as well as special forces under the command of the 7th Brigade, continue to expose the tunnel complex. They also revealed that the terror tunnel extends from under the hospital building and reaches the Qatari Building within the hospital complex.
Behind the breached blast door, soldiers discovered an air-conditioned hideout room and a bathroom. The soldiers of the 7th Brigade also located two additional tunnel shafts near the hospital: one on a nearby street and the other in a nearby house.
The findings display Hamas’ deliberate method of operating underneath hospitals. The terrorist organization also exploits the hospital buildings, using them to store weapons in and as terrorist headquarters.
Three videos:
Orientation by the IDF spokesperson, RDML Daniel Hagari, on the Hamas tunnel methodology in the Shifa Hospital complex (80 seconds, English)
IDF Spokesperson, RDML Daniel Hagari walk through inside the tunnel complex under Al Shifa hospital (9 minutes, in English)
IDF Spokesperson, RDML Daniel Hagari showing tunnel entrances inside a house adjacent to Al Shifa hospital (4 minutes, in English)

In the "Are the Palestinians Loved?" chapter:
I saw an Iranian clip that seems to make fun of "poor Palestinians in Gaza"

That is it for the day. No photos of Tel Aviv until next week…. Quite possibly no entry tomorrow (Thanksgiving day). I am hoping to sleep late.
I like this quote that I found in a friend’s essay:
Lucille Ball once said, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done, than regret the things I haven’t done.”
I am thankful for the amazing engagement and feedback from the readers here.
