My houseguest used the scooter! He loves it! But isn't taking it to Seattle.

Today in Tel Aviv

The sign on Tar Mem Beyt says:
Dear visitors! Please keep quiet. We have sleeping babies. Thanks for the consideration.
It is two blocks from my place, in Kerem HaTeimanim.
(The "joke" is that part of the intended audience is probably noisy Americans... and the sign is only in Hebrew....)

Two close friends are one-step removed from soldiers killed in Gaza during the past week. A conversation four weeks ago:
I feared 100's of killed soldiers when we went into Gaza, but it seems to be "just" a few a day.
Observed: A high percentage of the killed soldiers are relatively senior officers.
A reservist in a combat unit: "We are better equipped now than when we were on active duty. Between donations and what we buy on our own...."

About Mosques in Gaza
Even the buildings have history... (Below from Abu Ali Express)
Al Amri Mosque is the largest and oldest mosque in the Gaza Strip. It covers an area of 1800 square meters. It was first built as a church in the 5th century AD and then in the 7th century AD, with the Arab occupation of Israel, it was converted into a mosque.
Since then it has gone through several upheavals. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1294. In the 16th century it was restored by the Ottomans and was destroyed again in 1925 by the bombings of the British army. Later it was rebuilt by the Supreme Muslim Council.

I am yoga’ed, lunched, and getting ready to head up to Jerusalem for Shabbat and Hanukah.

[1] I am using the word "terrorist" because of the deliberate use of civilians by Hamas. As both: Targets (the October 7 attack and both historical and ongoing indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israeli cities); and, Shields (by setting up military facilities in and around housing, schools and mosques). It took me awhile to get to this, but the more time one spends on the topic, the less relevant ideas like “freedom fighter” appear. The main reason, this season, is the clear desire by Hamas for Palestinians to die. This is visible in so many ways, including the way that Hamas “soldiers” wear civilian clothes, and are included in the Gaza death count as civilians. Based on available information, %20-%50 of the dead in Gaza are combatants and their direct material supporters.
